The first sorting is done by a model, not a person. It looks at signals like how old your account is, whether a payment method is on file, and which servers and games you use, so a quiet account, a new account, or a lot of time in games popular with teenagers can land an adult in the teen group. Nothing is wrong with your account. Discord lets you prove otherwise with one of the check methods, or you can simply live with the teen defaults, which still leave you your friends, DMs, voice, and ordinary servers.

People report retrying ten or fifteen times with no luck. Face estimates struggle with poor or uneven light, glasses, a camera below eye level, and faces near the age line. Try once or twice with a bright, even light in front of you and the camera at eye height. If it still fails, stop retrying and switch to another method (a card, the app store age, or an ID), because some people report the selfie option disappearing after several failed tries.

This is the worst version, and there are a lot of reports of it: an adult does the scan, the estimate comes back under 13, and the account is disabled for being below Discord’s minimum age. Because you can’t log in, you can’t open a ticket from inside the account. Use Discord’s support site (dis.gd/contact) and submit a request with the email address on the account, pick the appeal or age-related option, and ask for a manual review. Expect Discord to ask for an ID to reverse it.

Make sure the whole document is in frame, flat, sharp, not glared, and not expired, and that the selfie matches the ID photo. If a clean attempt still fails, don’t keep uploading the same document over and over. Open a support request and ask for a manual review, and keep the reply emails.

The card check is not a purchase, and some banks and card types (prepaid, some debit cards, virtual cards) refuse that kind of zero-value verification. Try a different card, or a different method altogether.

It usually sits under your account settings, in the section Discord calls Account Status. People report it missing on the mobile app, or showing on PC but not on the phone after an update. Update the app, and if it still isn’t there, open Discord in the desktop app or in a browser at discord.com/app and look there.

If your own server is marked age-restricted, a teen-classified account gets blocked from it, owner or not. Moderate from the desktop app or the browser in the meantime, complete a check to be classed as an adult, or, if the server doesn’t need the flag, turn off the age-restricted setting on its channels.

The methods you’re offered depend on your country and your device. App store age only appears where Apple or Google shares an age range for your account, and the only digital ID Discord has announced is a passport-based ID in Google Wallet. A state driver’s licence in a phone wallet isn’t on the announced list.

No. Since 23 September 2026 an automated model sorts every account into adult, teen, or unconfirmed, and Discord says over 90% of accounts will never be asked to do anything. Accounts it can’t place as adult get teen defaults until they complete a check.

You keep your account, friends, DMs, voice, and ordinary servers. You lose age-restricted servers and channels, and some safety settings, like the sensitive media filter, stay locked at their teen defaults.

If the teen defaults don’t get in your way, there’s no deadline and no harm in waiting while the early problems get fixed. If you need an age-restricted server, pick the method you’re most comfortable with and do it once, carefully, rather than retrying a failing method many times.

Discord says the model does not read your messages or listen to your calls. It looks at account signals: account age, payment methods, activity, and the servers and games connected to the account. That is still a system watching how you use the app, just not what you say.

Discord says its face estimate runs on your device and the video never leaves it. The ID option is different: a photo of your ID and a selfie go to a third-party vendor, which Discord says deletes them after the check. The October 2025 breach, which exposed about 70,000 ID photos sent in for age appeals, is why many people don’t want to take that on trust.

We won’t publish bypass tricks. They break, and a flagged or failed check is exactly what is getting accounts suspended right now. The only clean way to never be asked is to spend your time somewhere that doesn’t ask.

In many places, yes. Under laws like the GDPR you can ask a company to delete the personal data it holds about you, and Discord’s privacy team is reachable at privacy@discord.com. Deleting the account in settings is the first step; a written deletion request covers the rest.
